As the year draws to a close, November left behind a heartwarming reminder of what happens when creativity meets purpose. The Young Voices, Big Dreams Project 2025 and the Desire & Ophadile Meet & Greet Weekend painted Botswana with inspiration, laughter, and hope, proving that big dreams truly do start with young voices.
Originally launched in South Africa as the Young Authors Project (YAP), this remarkable literacy and wellness initiative has already helped over 70 young writers become published authors. This year, the movement took a bold step into Botswana, reaching learners from Morula and Ithuteng Primary Schools, and igniting a spark that could shape the next generation of storytellers.
Running from 8th–14th November 2025, the Young Voices, Big Dreams Project offered more than just writing lessons, it offered empowerment. Through a week of creative writing workshops, book publishing opportunities, emotional wellness sessions, and mentorship, young participants learned that their words carry power, and that their stories deserve to be told.
The project’s goal is clear and heartfelt: to raise P35,000 and support at least 10 young authors through a six-month publishing journey. But beyond the numbers lies something deeper, a mission to build confidence, nurture imagination, and give Botswana’s youth a platform to dream out loud.
The week kicked off with the lively Desire & Ophadile Meet & Greet Weekend on 8th November at Peter’s Place B&B, where the spirit of community filled the air. The event brought together local creatives, small businesses, and wellness brands for a weekend of connection, collaboration, and celebration. From heartfelt conversations to bursts of laughter and shared inspiration, the Meet & Greet embodied what the project stands for, creativity, unity, and empowerment.
Sponsors, exhibitors, and supporters were invited to join in, helping turn the vision into reality. Together, they are not only helping young people publish books, but also planting seeds of self-belief that will bloom far beyond the page.
As Botswana closes the chapter on 2025 and looks to a new year ahead, the Young Voices, Big Dreams Project stands as a beautiful reminder that every great story starts with courage, and sometimes, all it takes is someone believing that your voice matters.
Because in these young authors, the future of Botswana is already writing itself.
