He is widely recognized as one of the most energetic, disciplined performer of all elements. He is an exceptionally talented and well accredited crowd puller, who passionately engages his audience and gives them value for their money at both indoor and outdoor shows. Timothy Sabuta, affectionately known by his stage name Dj LaTimmy is an African Botswana record producer, DJ and entrepreneur. He owns a record studio called “BeatMechaniX Studios”.
The seasoned entertainer and crowd puller started his music career in 2003 as a Dj in Francistown (Botswana’s second city). He then relocated to Gaborone city and established his now famous brand “Dj LaTimmy”. In 2005 and 2009 he rose to prominence as a tour DJ for some of Botswana’s biggest network companies. During that period, Dj LaTimmy established his career that garnered him a countrywide respect and following. The Nanzala Vuke hit maker released his solo debut album entitled “Motho” in 2008 and its self-titled single received an overwhelming airplay in all the local radio stations topping their charts. Following the success of his first album, Timmy released his second studio album entitled “Nfana wa Kasane” which contained the hit ‘Refilwe” in 2010. Nanzala Vuke Single was released in 2013 and it scooped Best Video & Best Single Award.
Along with other artists and DJ’s, LaTimmy played a major role in the merging of elements of House Music and modern day music genres (kwaito, jazz, hip hop and Rhyme and Blues). By constantly appearing in Botswana televisions’ most music shows, recognizing the amount of talent Dj LaTimmy has, Major (Recognized) local Corporate Institutions have outsourced his services as both outdoor and indoor Dj. As an MC, LaTimmy has been known to interact with all age co-hosts as well as delivers well memorable, electrifying services that leave consumers happy with the product. He has performed at the following major events amongst others; Mascom Wheels or Cash and Mascom Cash Explosion 2011-2012,Mascom Horse Race 2011, Consumer Fair and Phikwe Marathon in 2011. S.t Louis Summer Splash in 2011. Puma Energy Activations in 2011 and Orange Trade Fair in 2008-2010. The Botswana Television (Btv) engaged Dj LaTimmy in July 2013 as a resident Dj for the popular TV program- Flava Dome.
With so much passion and dedication, love and confidence LaTimmy’s career has progressed with the ability to have room for improvement. Besides his music career, he is also involved in helping the community by doing charity works. Elaborating further, he mentioned that he is in partnership with Mosadi TOTA Organization and they have been donating food hampers and clothes to the needy. Commenting on his experience of performing alongside Casper Nyovest at the Royal Bafokeng last year, Timmy described it as an overwhelming experience and he is forever grateful for that platform. Being unique and different makes one out stand hence why the use of his native language in his songs.
Dj LaTimmy stressed that education is important even in their field because it helps them to acquire new skills and k n o w l e d g e for their development in life. When talking about the entertainment industry in Botswana, Timmy mentioned that it has grown more to the extent of other artists getting to empower and uplift internationals than locals. Elaborating his point further, Dj LaTimmy said the arts “The arts are only visual and have a meaning to customers only when there is an international act on the line-up. This means the acts get more payment and more promotion locally while local acts are put themselves timeliness”.
When advising upcoming Djs, La Timmy have emphasized that years of practicing and self-investment is key. They should have passion and love for their dreams. For musicians, the only way they can remain afloat is by using social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp to reach out to their fans and stay relevant, but slowly getting back up with the sight of technology.
