Born in 1995 in the Eastern Cape, Rorisang Michael Monanabela is a multi-talented individual currently pursuing his passion for art while studying Architecture at the University of Witwatersrand. Early Years and Academic Pursuits:
Rorisang’s journey into the world of creativity began at the tender age of five when his grandmother introduced him to numbers. However, it was during his mathematics lessons that he found solace in using pencils to draw stickmen, revealing an early affinity for artistic expression. Despite his initial focus on numbers, Rorisang graduated from Walter Sisulu University with a Bcom in Accounting in 2018, showcasing his academic versatility.
Turning Point: Self-taught Artist:
In 2014, Rorisang pursued a Bachelor of Accounting Science at Walter Sisulu University. Unfortunately, in 2017, he lost his bursary, a setback that would become a turning point in his life. Driven by financial constraints, Rorisang taught himself how to draw professionally, mastering both pencils and paper. His artistic journey took a leap in 2018 when he decided to pursue art as a career.
Passion for Realism and Imagination:
Embracing the freedom of imagination, Rorisang explored various drawing techniques, focusing on creating hyper-realistic portraits and illustrations. At the end of 2018, Rorisang shared his aspirations of becoming a full-time artist with his single mother, who responded with unwavering support. Her words served as a catalyst for Rorisang’s artistic journey, encouraging him to use his gift wisely and continue pursuing his passion.
