VESSEL OF GRACE AND VOICE OF THE GOSPEL – GAONE SELEBO
Gaone Selebo, a shining star in Botswana’s gospel music scene, is a living testament that faith, perseverance, and purpose can open international doors. Recently crowned a winner at the prestigious Gospel Choice Music Awards, Gaone has carved a path for herself not only as a gospel singer but as a gospel ambassador, promoter, and an agent of transformation in her community.
“Winning the Gospel Choice Music Award means a great milestone for me,” she says with joy. “It has opened international doors and I am beyond excited. I keep thanking God for this great opportunity—it’s truly humbling.”
Her musical journey began in childhood, at the tender age of 10. Raised in a Christian household and active in church from a young age, Gaone’s foundation in the gospel was laid early and deeply. But it wasn’t until 2012 that she took her calling to the professional stage.
“I was inspired by the Word of God. Growing up in church, I always had the desire to preach—but through music. To me, gospel music isn’t just art; it’s a calling. It’s a way to minister, to heal, and to deliver people through song.”
For Gaone, music and ministry go hand in hand. Every lyric she pens is drawn from scripture, and every performance is preceded by prayer. “My faith influences everything—especially my songwriting. I always seek direction from the Bible, and I invite God before stepping on stage. It’s not about entertainment, it’s about touching souls.”
Since her debut single release in 2017, Gaone’s career has witnessed consistent growth and recognition. Her music has reached listeners across borders, and her trophy shelf continues to grow with accolades that reflect her impact.
“One of my most memorable moments was receiving the Best Gospel Promoter Award in Cape Town in 2023. That was a powerful moment for me it proved that the work I do behind the scenes is being recognized.”
Gaone also proudly recalls her attendance at the INGOMA Awards in Polokwane, South Africa. Though she didn’t win an award there, she regards the experience as a vital connection point. “It wasn’t just about winning. I met incredible artists, promoters, and industry players. That level of exposure is important for any gospel artist aiming to grow.”
But for Gaone, the goal has always remained the same: ministry. “The message I want to share through my songs is this: Seek the face of God while there’s still time. Never give up. Trust in God’s timing, and believe in what He has placed in your heart. That’s the heartbeat of my music.”
Her music offers comfort, guidance, and a sense of spiritual direction to many. She sees every performance as a mission an opportunity to lift someone out of despair, depression, or doubt.
Despite her ever-growing schedule, Gaone has mastered the art of balance. “I create a schedule for every role I play. Whether it’s music, radio, promotions, or events—I make sure to give each one the attention it deserves.”
In addition to her music career, Gaone Selebo is a prominent radio personality—a role she embraces with equal passion. “When I’m behind the mic, I love the conversations, the testimonies, and the opportunity to connect with people from all over the world. It fills my heart.”
More than just a broadcaster, Gaone uses her platform to uplift others. She promotes local gospel artists by offering them free radio slots to share their work. “Radio is powerful. It shapes public opinion and gives visibility. I’m committed to using it to support the gospel industry in Botswana.”
This commitment extends to her company, Lady G Promotions, which she founded to help artists discover, develop, and expose their talents. “Lady G Promotions is all about empowerment. We want to help local artists access greater platforms and collaborate with other musicians across Africa and beyond. Collaboration increases impact and sales too.”
Beyond music and radio, Gaone is also an experienced event organizer. She’s been part of the organizing teams behind major award shows such as the AGA Gospel Music Awards, BOMU Awards, and Glitz Awards. She even served as a Coordinator for the Traditional Music Awards.
These experiences reflect her multifaceted contribution to the music and cultural space in Botswana. Whether she’s performing, promoting, or producing, Gaone does it all with grace, professionalism, and unwavering faith.
As she continues to reach new heights, Gaone remains grounded in her purpose. “It’s not about fame,” she says, “it’s about fulfilling the mission God gave me to minister, to inspire, and to uplift. And as long as He gives me breath, I’ll keep singing His praises.”
