Born as Nicolas Kabalano Kabelo, the artist popularly known as Nick Bust has steadily carved a name for himself as one of Botswana’s most promising and versatile musician. Hailing from the culturally rich village of Molepolole, Nick’s journey into music dates back to 2012, when he teamed up with fellow creatives Atamelang “Aves” Pelosula and the late Bame “Flip” Thebolo (May His Soul Rest In Peace) to form a rap group that would mark the beginning of his career.
The Birth of a Dream
The trio met during their secondary school days, brought together by their mutual passion for music. They formed a group known as Deciples Rapper’s Crew, a brotherhood rooted in lyrical expression and youthful ambition. Their chemistry was evident from the start, and they recorded a number of tracks together, each contributing a unique voice and energy to the collective.
However, as life took its course, commitments and personal paths began to shift, and the group eventually went their separate ways. Yet, for Nick Bust, this separation was not the end—it was merely the beginning of a long and self-defining journey.
Inspired by Legends, Driven by Purpose
Nick’s love for music had always been deep-rooted, influenced by Botswana’s musical greats such as Scar and Zeus. As the local hip-hop landscape evolved, the emergence of icons like ATI and Dramaboi brought a fresh, raw edge to the scene. Their powerful lyricism and unique storytelling styles inspired Nick to sharpen his pen and start writing his own music.
What followed was a journey filled with challenges, setbacks, growth, and above all—faith. “It hasn’t been an easy journey throughout the years,” Nick reflects, “but nothing beats progress if you love and respect your art and allow God to lead you.”
From Studio Booths to Bigger Stages
Nick Bust’s dedication to his craft led him to work with several production outfits across Botswana. During his early days with Deciples Rapper’s Crew, he collaborated with Klevas Records and Dublin Productions, gaining invaluable experience that would later shape his solo career.
After the group disbanded, Nick joined M’Dwellers Crew, before eventually stepping into his solo artistry. From 2016 to 2019, he was actively creating music under the mentorship of Bapsido, a talented producer at Zone Empathy Music. This phase of his career allowed him to explore different styles, refine his lyrical voice, and experiment with sound in a more personal and focused manner.
In 2020, a major shift occurred when he crossed paths with JT Specialboy, the creative mind behind Blackmail Entertainment. It was under this label that Nick Bust truly came into his own. With a more mature sound and an expanding audience, he released his debut EP titled Past Present Future—a five-track project that showcased his growth and versatility as an artist.
The EP received notable recognition, receiving airplay across various radio stations and leading to a coveted interview on RB2 with DJ Chabo. His performances also extended to national television platforms, including Mokaragana and Flavadome, introducing his music to a broader audience.
“Company” – A New Chapter of Afrobeat Vibes
On June 10th, 2025, Nick Bust unveiled a fresh sound with the release of his Afrobeat single titled “Company”, featuring Bless Boy. The song, a blend of catchy rhythms and soulful melodies, was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Obie Trax at Blackmail Entertainment. Interestingly, “Company” was not part of a planned rollout—it was born in the studio, composed entirely on the spot after the duo heard the beat and followed the rhythm where it led them. The result was a smooth and infectious track that quickly became a hit.
The single was released alongside a performance video, which is now available for streaming and download on YouTube and Audiomack. The track has also made its way to radio playlists, available for public request and enjoying considerable attention from fans and music lovers alike.
Looking Ahead
Nick Bust’s journey is far from over. With a strong foundation, rich experiences, and a growing catalog of music, he stands as a beacon of resilience and artistic evolution in Botswana’s music scene. His story serves as a reminder that while the road may be long and often uncertain, staying true to one’s passion and purpose is what ultimately leads to greatness.
As he continues to rise, collaborate, and explore new sounds, Nick remains grounded in his humble beginnings and driven by a purpose bigger than fame. His message to upcoming artists is clear: “Respect your art, let God guide your steps, and never lose sight of why you started.”
Whether he’s blending lyrical finesse with Afrobeat melodies or making waves on national platforms, Nick Bust is undoubtedly a name to watch—a versatile talent with a story still unfolding.
